What happened to the filipino supercar?
It is that time of year again, the sun is starting to show and cabrio weather is around the corner. Well the problem with that is that I don’t own a cabrio and a start looking at cars I can’t afford, dreaming of those Porsches, Ferraris and Lambos, then I realise I am broke and probably should look at other cars only to realise I am actually really broke… so no car this summer for me again….
Well let’s stop pitying poor little me that can’t afford a sports car and has still to drive around in Mamas car. Thank you Mama for borrowing me your car on a daily basis.
Now to what you are actually here for. The Filipino supercar!
Did you know that there is a filipino car brand and it even builds supercars?
The car is called Aurelio! What a pinoy name that is, but you know what it suits the car and maybe it go as far as Ferrari, who has also called there car after himself. And who knows maybe we will have soon an Aurelio theme park just like Ferrari has one in Abu Dhabi.
The first time I heard about this car is over a few drinks with some friends after watching way to much Top Gear when it was still good with Clarkson and Company! We were talking about the cars we would love to own. One thing lead to another and we searched for Filipino cars and what we discovered was beautiful. A car which would surely turn everybody’s when you drive by. It takes cues from many different cars, almost feels Italian, does it look like a Ferrari, does it look like an lambo? I am not sure, it has decently hints of both, and it looks like they have perfected the look. It looks aggressive, sportive, and elegant all at the same time. Would I have ever guessed that this beautiful was build in the Philippines by a filipino owned business? No not at all. Car design and manufacturing is something hard a tedious to do and takes long years to perfect. Look at Ferrari or Lambo, or even older companies like Mercedes or Ford. They have a long history of design and innovation. But I don’t think that Ford has build anything as beautiful as this.
I teased you to much, about the beauty of this car, so here are a few pictures of what it looks like, isn’t it beautiful?
Now, let’s talk a little bit about the specs of the Aurelio, now that we know it is a beautifully filipino build car. The car is available with a choice of two engines. You can get it with a Honda B16A V-TEC engine (used in old Honda Civic SI) and a 2.0 later Mitsubishi 4G63T turbocharged engine. The Mitsubishi powered Aurelio packs 457 HP and is said to have a top speed of nearly 290 km/h. It is also supposed to run a quarter of a mile in under 10 seconds. Adding to this amazing specs the car is basically made out of carbonfiber and fiberglass to reduce weight! This car doesn’t only look beautiful but it sounds like it packs quite a punch, it can maybe not compete with it European competitors but do you really need more HP? Plus if you live in Europe like me you see one or the other Porsche, but do you see an Aurelio? Owning this car will make you unique!
Table of specs:
Engine: 2.0 liter Mitsubishi 4G63T turbocharged
Horsepower: 457 Hp
Top speed 290 km/h
0-100 km/h: under 10 sec
Tires: 18-inch Rota
Suspension: VR4 (front and rear)
Price P1.6 million (26798,48 €, 30588,00$) (Conversion made in Spring 2019)
So you have now heard me talk so highly of this car, but there is a but… A big but… I heard about this car in 2014 for the time, today we are in 2019 and I haven’t heard of any serious news of this car manufacturer! Guys what is happening? We want to hear about you? What are you up to? Will we be able to buy the car soon? And how the heck can I test drive the car?
If you know the guys who own this company, I would love to hear from them, maybe we can organise something together and get more information out there! This is an amazing filipino business and an amazing car, which everybody should want to own! We have to put a bigger spotlight on companies like this, innovative, young, and pinoy. Guys I hope we can start a conversation and showcase your cars to a bigger audience. HIT ME UP! email@example.com
